Description
MES also known as 4-Morpholinoethanesulfonic acid is used as a buffering agent in Life Sciences. It is a zwitterionic organic buffer and is one of the original Good’s buffers [Good et al. 1966]. MES buffer has a pKa value of 6.10 at 25°C. It is very soluble in water, not absorbed through the cell membranes, almost inert in biochemical reactions, essentially transparent to visible and UV light, and chemically / ezymatically stable. It is widely used in cell culture media, electrophoresis, and molecular biology applications.
